Min Qualifications

  • Administrative experience relative to directing an Office of Nursing Research
  • Experience in helping to develop a post-doctoral program

The Associate Dean for Research oversees all School of Nursing (SON) research initiatives and related activities. The Associate Dean serves as the Executive Director for the Office of Nursing Research and is responsible for promoting and facilitating programs of research and scholarly productivity of the faculty. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Dean for Research include visionary planning for research initiatives, providing guidance to research-oriented faculty, obtaining research funding, and facilitating team science across the Schools within the university. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of funded research, proven organizational and managerial skills, experience building and maintaining partnerships across units, and demonstrated knowledge of trends in national funding and issues in higher education. The Associate Dean for Research reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing.

Specific Job Related Duties **

  • Facilitates faculty and professional development in the area of research
  • Sustains an ongoing program of externally funded research
  • Develops and implements a strategic plan that supports the SON research mission
  • Secures research mission-related resources and develops resource management strategies
  • Directs the Office of Nursing Research, including providing programmatic leadership and direct supervision of research support personnel
  • Oversees the operations of the SON Biologic Laboratory and Center for Behavioral Research
  • Provides and facilitates mentorship of faculty
  • Systematically disseminates information for ongoing research activities and available resources at the SON
  • Maintains a system for review, critique, and consultation of grant proposals to be submitted for external funding
  • Projects and coordinates funding needs for intramural funding and faculty research development activities
  • Participates in selected ongoing teaching activities in the School of Nursing
  • Expands collaborative research efforts with clinical facilities (e.g., UTMB hospitals and clinics) to promote translational science
  • Builds intra- and interprofessional relationships that promote new and existing research linkages

Preferred Work Experience **

  • Experience in facilitating faculty in the development, submission, and implementation of grant applications to local, state, federal, and private foundations
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring and guiding junior faculty in preparation of research grants and scholarly activities
  • Experience in serving on NIH and other review panels
  • Experience in guiding dissertation and doctoral projects
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Facilitates faculty and professional development in the area of research
